Welcome to Between Magazine,
a intersectional digital magazine dedicated to platforming work created by BIPOC people from marginalised genders. Between is a space where our stories can coexist, making it easier for people to discover and engage with the talent and perspectives that often go unseen.
What We’re Looking For:
First things first, we are always open for submissions—there are no deadlines here. We also don’t work to a theme; you can submit original work(s) that resonates with you. The team will curate a volume of 6–12 pieces for our monthly magazine and select one essay for our monthly Between Me & You essay series. At Between, we welcome two main styles of submissions:
Between Magazine Monthly Volume:
Each month, Between publishes a carefully curated volume that showcases the full range of creative expression from our community. Submissions can include and are not limited to:
Personal essays, cultural critiques & opinion pieces
Fiction & non-fiction
Poetry, short stories & prose
Music, playlists & art
Anything & everything that speaks to that months theme
Between Me & You:
Imagine if “Hot Takes” had a hot, literary, thought daughter, older sibling - that’s Between Me & You. Each month we will select a personal essay that explores the taboo, the canid, the controversial and anything in-between.
Monthly Volume Style Guide:
We recognise that creativity takes many forms, particularly within the communities we platform, so we welcome work in any Substack-compatible format, including:
Written essays and opinion pieces
Poetry
Visual art and photography
Video and multimedia
Audio recordings and podcasts
Interviews
Between is committed to platforming work from creatives at any point in their journey, we highly encourage submissions from people of all experience levels.

Between is a intersectional magazine for people of colour from marginalised genders. We platform voices that are often sidelined, but we welcome all stories and creative work—regardless of subject matter.
Identity: You do not have to disclose your identities/communities or share your personal lived experiences if you do not want to. This is a space for authentic creative expression in all forms.
Our Platform: We ask that contributors are mindful of the community we’re building and reflect on whether this platform is the right fit for their work.
Respect: This space celebrates diverse perspectives. We ask all contributors to be respectful and conscious of the impact their work may have on other community members.
Language: Language is ever evolving. Our editors and community members are committed to creating a space that is community-centred and reflects our ever-changing understanding of each other's experiences—and the language we use to articulate those experiences.
If you have any questions about submitting your work or our platform more generally you can get in touch with us at betweenmagazine@gmail.com.
